Jalpan de Serra & Peña de Bernal

Our next stop was Jalpan de Serra, located in the third and last state we visited this week, Querétaro. We were stunned by the abrupt change in scenery: from arid, semi-desertic planes to lush mountains in just a few hours’ ride.

The scenery was beautiful so we took lots of pit stops to enjoy the cacti and flowers around us.

The highlight of Jalpan de Serra was another nature excursion but I opted out of that one, preferring to stay in our nice little poolside apartment and get some work done (I was still working on business school applications at the time!).

Next, we moved onto Peña de Bernal. The main attraction seemed to be this big rock — sorry, monolith.

The town itself exudes a charming atmosphere, with cobblestone streets and colorful facades. We got to try some apple beer and had a look around a bakery and sweets shop.
