Laos was the second stop on the Asia portion of our 2024-2025 trip!
We entered the country from Thailand via Friendship Bridge No 4 (read more on crossing the border here). We took the 2-day slow river boat to Luang Prabang, a UNESCO World Heritage site, famous for its architecture and rich history. Next, we spent 4 days in Vang Vieng before heading to the capital, Vientiane.
The country remains incredibly well-preserved, making it a haven for nature lovers and adventurers. Though Luang Prabang and Vang Vieng had reputations of being ‘party towns’ targeting young solo backpackers, we found both places (though very different from one another) to be very safe and laidback. There were definitely some bars that remained open well into the night but it felt like most people were there to enjoy the surrounding nature.
We were absolutely blown away by the waterfalls, caves, hikes, and viewpoints Laos had to offer. Though we only stayed in the north this time, we are eager to return to explore the south!
